Here are a few of the commonly asked questions we have heard in the past, but if you have a question that we have not answered here, please feel free to email or call us to find out more.

What can I anticipate happening during my initial visit?

During your first visit, our goal is to get to know you, review your medical history, clearly understand your dental health, and listen to your concerns. A detailed charting of your teeth, gums, and related structures is done, as well as a screening for oral cancer. X-rays will be taken as necessary to complete the exam. Treatment recommendations are based on a common goal of achieving maximum comfort, function, health and aesthetics.

Why are x-rays taken and how often should they be done?

Upon initial examination x-rays are taken to check for cavities in-between teeth and to check the level and quality of the bone, which supports the teeth. X-rays also help to see if there is any pathology at the roots of the teeth. X-rays are taken for diagnostic purposes and are usually done once a year.

What about my children, at what age should they first see a dentist?

Promoting good dental health begins early. The key to a successful first dental visit for children is to create a positive, non-threatening dental office experience. We recommend bringing children in to observe a parent or sibling’s dental visit. This way the child will know what to expect during their visit. Children are most receptive to their first dental visit between the ages of 2 – 3 years.

What sterilization precautions do you take to ensure patient safety?

The strictest regimens of disinfection and sterilization are conducted for the safety of each patient and the dental team. All operatory surfaces are disinfected with a tuberculocidal disinfectant, which will kill all known viruses and bacterial spores. All instruments are autoclaved for total sterility for each use. Disposable items, which are for single patient use, are utilized whenever possible. Our dental chairs have self contained water systems using distilled, bottled water for every patient. We regularly flush the lines with disinfectant to maintain the ADA’s recommendations for dental unit water line cleanliness.

My gums bleed after I brush. Is this something to be concerned about?

Bleeding gums can be caused by improper or rough brushing, using a hard-bristled toothbrush, and plaque and/or tartar buildup below the gum line. Most of the time chronic gum disease is usually the problem. If you find your gums are bleeding, it is best to contact our office for an evaluation appointment.

What causes bad breath and what can I do about it?

When bacteria accumulate because of poor oral hygiene or gum disease, or when saliva is lacking, bad breath can result. Saliva is necessary to wash away food particles and bacteria. Some medications and disorders can lead to a dry mouth. Sometimes a sinus infection, postnasal drip or other respiratory tract infection can cause bad breath. If bad breath is persistent, contact our office to determine whether the cause is of dental origin. Maintaining good oral hygiene, eliminating gum disease and scheduling regular professional cleanings are essential to reducing bad breath.

I really don’t like visiting the dentist. Is there anything you can do to help me relax?

We understand how anxious people can be about visiting the dentist. We strive to create a relaxing atmosphere. If necessary, we offer nitrous oxide (laughing gas) or a prescription sedative prior to treatment. When you come in for your evaluation, let us know how you are feeling, and we will put you completely at ease.

Do you accept referrals?

Yes we do. To us, referring a family member or friend to our dental practice is the highest compliment you can give us. Thank you! We always look forward to providing the same excellent care and service to your friends and family.

What do I do if I have an emergency when the office is closed?

Just call us and follow the prompts for dialing the emergency number. Dr. Bhaskar is always on-call and available to assist you day and night. We understand emergencies can happen, and we are here to take care of you when you need help.

What payment options do you provide?

We accept most dental insurances and will gladly file a dental claim for you. We are well versed in your insurance coverage for a particular procedure, and are more than happy to discuss your plan details with you before any treatment that is planned. Your insurance co-pay is due at the time of your visit, but we will be happy to help you structure a payment plan to pay out any remaining charges. We accept cash, checks, Visa and MasterCard. We are also pleased to offer financing plans, if needed.

How can I ask the doctor questions directly?

Just click on “Contact Us” and Dr. Bhaskar will answer your email personally. Of course, we are always available by phone or in person. Please feel free to ask us a dental question any time.

How can I safely whiten my teeth?

Most whitening methods are considered safe, especially if performed under the supervision of a dentist. We offer a variety for you to choose from everything from a one-hour, in-office procedure to an at-home version that works more gradually.

New COVID Safety Protocols

Mona Bhaskar, DDS is open and seeing patients! Here’s an overview of our new COVID safety protocols:

NEW SOCIAL DISTANCING MEASURES

We have instituted a new texting program that allows patients to stay in their car when they arrive and call or text our office to notify us. We will then notify the patient by calling or texting when the treatment room is ready. Patients must wear a mask in the office per the governor’s executive order. Patients should come with their own masks. They can expect to be greeted at the front of the office by a staff member who will provide hand sanitizer. Temperatures will be taken with a touchless thermometer. Patients will then be taken directly back to their treatment room where they will complete a questionnaire. At this time, non-patients coming with patients are limited to ONE necessary guardian.

NEW PROTECTIVE MEASURES

The doctor and assistant will be wearing enhanced levels of personal protective equipment (PPE). This includes the use of face shields, KN95 and level 3 masks and scrubs with disposable surgical gown. For the foreseeable future, we will not be using the cavitron which vibrates and sprays out water.

THOROUGH CLEANING OF OFFICE

We have removed all magazines from the waiting room area. We will clean each treatment room thoroughly before and after each patient. We will alternate treatment rooms as we give the ample time for aerosols to settle. We have a cleaning service that comes in each day, thoroughly cleaning the entire office. Hand sanitizer is available at the front desk and in common areas.

A TOUCHLESS THERMOMETER

Temperatures will be taken of the doctor and all staff members, as well as patients prior to treatment. We have a touchless digital thermometer.

A QUESTIONNAIRE

All patients will be asked a new set of questions when confirming over the phone and upon arrival to the office. Patients who answer yes to any of the screening questions will be asked to reschedule their appointment.
